How Xolair Works

The drug operates by inhibiting the bindings of IgE to an IgE receptor (to clarify, IgE is usually involved with allergies when present in the body in high quantities). Xolair treatment also brings down the number of FcRI receptors in atopic patients.

In laymens terms, this mean that Xolair prevents your body's allergic reactions from leading to inflamations. For asthmatics, this would prevent the constriction of the lungs. In some cases, Xolair allows for the consumption of foods that previously would have incapacitated or killed those with allergies towards them.
