About Xolair
Actually known as Omalizumab, and is made by the company Novartis. It's used primarily as an allergy-related asthma treatment. The drug's purpose is to reduce one's allergic hypersensitivity. This drug is produced from female Chinese hamster. It is made from an ovary cell suspension culture in a nutrient medium containing an antibiotic called gentamicin.
Administering
The drug is given via injection, which could be a turn off for those of us who don't like needles (It should be noted that the needle itself is quite small, so unless you're terrified of the practice it may not be a problem). Xolair is given in one to three injections. These injections take place every two to four weeks. The drug is currently required to be administered by your health care provider.
Results from Xolair
Greatly enhances the quality of life of those suffering from debilitating asthma symptoms. It has been hailed as the closest thing to a cure for moderate to severe cases of allergy induced asthma. Particularly useful to reduce dependency on steroids to manage asthma attacks.
